IBTA-CBTRUS Link Up to Boost Awareness
|
|---|
The International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA, www.theibta.org) is raising global awareness of the challenges of brain tumors by linking like-minded organizations around the world. More than 50 brain tumor patient and professional groups around the globe will participate in the IBTA's key projects for 2007-The Walk Around the World for Brain Tumo(u)rs and the inaugural International Brain Tumo(u)r Awareness Week (October 21-27, 2007).
IBTA has commissioned the Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States (CBTRUS, www.cbtrus.org) to analyze available worldwide data on brain tumors. Using GLOBOCAN 2002, the CBTRUS found that the worldwide annual incidence of primary malignant brain tumors is 3.7 per 100,000 for males and 2.6 per 100,000 for females, translating to 189,582 newly diagnosed individuals in 2002. CBTRUS is also compiling a global snapshot of the prevalence of malignant and the incidence of both malignant and non-malignant brain and other central nervous system tumors as part of the IBTA's 2007 awareness-raising activities. This project will make these worldwide data available for the first time in a concise format.
The IBTA also is in contact with the SNO International Outreach Committee to help determine how best to survey primary care for brain tumor patients in less developed countries.

for Neuro-Oncology (EANO)
September 12-14, 2008
Barcelona, Spain
The Eighth Congress of the European Association for NeuroOncology will be held under the auspices of the Spanish Group of NeuroOncology (GENO). GENO was founded in 1999 in the multidisciplinary spirit of EANO. The local organizing committee is already working hard with EANO to provide the best postgraduate course, scheduled to be held on the first day of the congress, and an attractive scientific program that will cover the most important topics of our field in symposia, meet-the-expert sessions, and keynote lectures. As usual, the interdisciplinary spirit will be the basis of the congress. We invite colleagues from all the neuro-oncological disciplines (such as basic sciences, neuropathology, neurology, neurosurgery, neuroimaging, medical oncology, pediatrics, radiation oncology, and nursing) to participate actively in the oral and poster presentations.
For more information, contact Yannis Roussos at phone +43-1-4051383-0, or visit the related Web site at www.eano.eu. Please send all items you would like to have included in future issues to:
