Impact Factor Grows, Thanks to Hard-Working Reviewers

W. K. Alfred Yung, Editor in Chief

The 2007 impact factors (published annually by Thomson Scientific in its Journal Citation Reports) have been released, and Neuro-Oncology's number has reached new heights. Our impact factor number now stands at 5.806, up from 4.939 in 2006 (see New Impact Factor Rankings Show Continued Upward Trajectory for Neuro-Oncology [Neuro-Oncology 2007;9:383] for more details on the impact factor, its calculation, and its meaning). This ranks Neuro-Oncology 6th of 146 clinical neurology journals (up from 14th last year), and 16th of 132 oncology journals (up from 23rd last year). See the figure below for a look at the historical trend. Of interest: The journal now ranks just behind Clinical Cancer Research in the oncology journals list and Neurology in the neurology journals list.Go

The editorial team is just a part of what makes a journal successful, though. First and foremost, we owe our thanks to the authors who have decided to entrust Neuro-Oncology with their best work, allowing us to benefit from the high quality of their scientific endeavors. We hope to remain worthy of their trust and to continue providing a rigorous and respected environment for their publications.

We are also mindful that it is peer reviewers who take on the important task of sifting through the submitted papers to identify and thoughtfully critique those that are most appropriate for the journal's readers and for the field of neuro-oncology in general. So while we celebrate our latest success in impact-factor ranking, we think this is the appropriate time to share our appreciation with those peer reviewers who are not on our editorial board but who, nevertheless, committed many volunteer hours over the past year to analyzing and giving feedback on manuscripts. Because of their efforts (and those of many of their peers in years past), Neuro-Oncology has been able to continue to gain in importance and influence in the scientific community. We thank them all for their hard work.
